About Sophie

Sophie is a third-generation Scarborough resident, having lived in District 124 her entire life. She attended Lil’ Folks Farm on Black Point Road, and Scarborough public schools through eighth grade before enrolling at Catherine McAuley High School. She distinguished herself as a leader at McAuley, serving as Class President and becoming a Seed of Peace.

In 2019, Sophie graduated from Brandeis University with a Bachelor’s degree in international relations. During her time as an undergraduate, she became a fierce advocate for equity and inclusion. She studied international criminal law at Leiden University Law School in The Hague, Netherlands, during a scholarship-sponsored semester abroad, served as a residential advisor to underclassmen at Brandeis, was a research assistant and teaching assistant, and spent a summer in Jerusalem, Israel, where she facilitated dialogue sessions for the Palestinian and Israeli Youth Chorus.

After graduating from Brandeis in 2019, Sophie moved to Washington, D.C., where she was a legislative intern in the office of Senator Angus King (I-ME). In Senator King’s office, she saw firsthand the power of cross-aisle collaboration for successful policymaking while working on issues involving the judiciary, civil rights, and veterans affairs.

Sophie joined the U.S. presidential campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) in January 2020, grassroots campaigning on his behalf in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and California.

As Sophie serves in public office, she is guided by lessons of compassion and connection, which she has learned through her interactions with culturally, racially, and socioeconomically diverse communities. She strives to learn from and with her public servant peers. Her fundamental interest is empowering the people of Scarborough through the development of sustainable and inclusive policy in Augusta.
